Personality/Career Interest Inventories
A personality assessment is a tool that assesses a person’s personality characteristics and traits.
There are several benefits to understanding personality characteristics and traits. It allows for improved communication, developing healthier relationships, anticipation of reactions, assisting with navigating through conflicts more effectively and modifying interactions to needs and preferences, eventually leading to positive and productive dynamic in personal, educational and professional settings.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test that categorizes people into 16 types based on their preferences in four areas:
-
- Extraversion (E) versus Introversion (I): Where you get your energy
- Sensing (S) versus Intuition (N): What information you prefer to gather and trust
- Thinking (T) versus Feeling (F): The process you prefer to use in making decisions
- Judging (J) versus Perceiving (P): How you deal with the world around you
The MBTI is based on the work of Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types. It’s designed to help people understand themselves and others, and can be used to make career choices.
Career aptitude tests are an assessment that help you understand which careers might be right for you by evaluating your interest, personality, skills and goals.
Personality and career assessments complement each other by providing a well-rounded view of an individual’s potential career route, allowing them to recognize roles that align with both their personality traits, characteristics, interests, skills, and values. This information will assist with leading to better job satisfaction and career fulfillment; effectively, the personality assessment discloses how an individual might work, while the career assessment recognizes what type of work might best suit them based on their skills, characteristics and interests.
The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) is a career assessment tool that helps people identify their interests and find fulfilling careers:
-
- Purpose: The SII compares your interests to those of successful people in various occupations to help you identify jobs to explore.
- Applications: The SII can be used for:
