“Gifted Testing and Evaluation”

While many children struggle with school subjects and fall behind, there are some children who are considered advanced for their age. A gifted child is someone who learns and retains information much quicker, and might feel as though they are not getting the level of education they need. To be certain if your child is gifted, you must watch for signs and then consider getting them professionally evaluated.

When to Get Them Tested

It is ideal to wait until your child is at least 6 years of age before gifted testing for a more accurate IQ test. Reasons in getting your child evaluated should be based on behavior, creativity, and cognitive abilities. You might notice your child is unusually alert, intensely concentrated when performing tasks, has a mature vocabulary for their age, enjoys solving math problems and puzzles, and more. It may become apparent that they can master their school subjects with little effort, and may express boredom in school because of it. It will be extraordinary to watch them excel at unusual speeds, but the potential will be wasted if not addressed.

Why Test?

The purpose of getting your child gifted tested is to help them excel without restraint. A gifted student should be exposed to higher learning and appropriate challenges. This will allow them to grow and use their talents to their advantage, resulting in better opportunities for them and their future. Ignoring the fact that your child is considered gifted could cause them to lose interest in learning without the excitement of new material. Once your child has been deemed gifted, you will find that there are gifted programs available for placement. This will give your child the ability to succeed at a more advanced level where they feel most comfortable.
